Revenue NSW collects your personal information so that you can manage your fines online.
Revenue NSW gives priority to protecting the privacy of your personal information. We do this by handling personal information in a responsible manner and in accordance with the NSW Privacy Laws: Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act 1998 and Health Records and Information Privacy Act 2002.
Why are we collecting your personal information?
Revenue NSW is collecting your personal information for the following purposes:
- administering fines in accordance with the Fines Act 1996;
- providing you with access to notifications about fines and overdue fines;
- validating your proof of identity and your personal details for access to your online account;
- contacting you to request, verify, or confirm the information you provide in support of your request for review, nomination, court election, general enquiry or payment plans;
- responding to complaints and enquiries in relation to fines, including disclosure to relevant authorities such as the NSW Ombudsman, the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal, NSW Court etc;
- conducting audit and compliance activities to confirm that legislation has been complied with; and
- other directly related purposes.
What personal information do we collect?
Revenue NSW will collect the following information for the purposes of providing you an online fines service:
- name;
- email address;
- phone number;
- address details;
- date of birth;
- contact preferences;
- bank details;
- vehicle registration;
- drivers licence number; and
- evidence that supports your request for review or enquiry.
Revenue NSW may collect the following information about anyone you nominate to act on your behalf for the purposes of managing your fines:
- name;
- email address;
- phone number;
- address details;
- date of birth;
- relationship to you;
- contact preferences; and
- whether the nomination is ongoing or temporary
Revenue NSW may collect the following information about anyone you nominate as being responsible for a fine:
- name;
- email address;
- phone number;
- address details;
- date of birth;
- vehicle registration;
- drivers licence number and state of issue; and
- passport number.
How will we use and disclose this information?
Revenue NSW may use your personal information to:
- verify the information you provide Revenue NSW, the Document Verification Service, Service NSW or another public/private entity; and
- collect, maintain and use the information for fine administration purposes.
Revenue NSW may disclose the information to:
- the authority who issued the fine including NSW Police, Local Councils and Transport for NSW as permitted by law;
- NSW Police, if Revenue NSW reasonably suspects a case of fraud or other criminal activity or as permitted by law;
- any person nominated by you as the person responsible for the fine, generally limited to your name only;
- any person nominated by you to act on your behalf;
- Service NSW to provide fine support services;
- Revenue NSW’s contracted printing, document capture and email service providers;
- other third party service providers engaged by Revenue NSW to support the administration of fines;
- authorised representatives and anyone with implied authority for fines administration purposes; and
- administer other Revenue NSW legislation such as First Home Owner Grant (New Homes) Act 2000, Unclaimed Money Act 1995, State Debt Recovery Act 2019 etc.
Revenue NSW may disclose de-identified information:
- to NSW Treasury for the purposes of data analysis and aggregation to audit, analyse and report on fines administration. Any report or publications on fines will not identify any individual; and
- for research and statistical purposes in accordance with the Data Sharing (Government Sector) Act 2015.
Revenue NSW will not disclose the personal information you provide to third parties for any purposes not already stated in this privacy collection notice, or to which you have not otherwise consented, unless Revenue NSW is required, or authorised, by law to do so. We will retain your information in accordance with the law.
Are you required to provide us with this information?
Revenue NSW will only collect personal information that is necessary to deal with your fine. Providing us with the requested information is required under the Fines Act 1996.

Revenue NSW will take reasonable security measures to protect your personal information from loss,unauthorised access, use, modification, disclosure, or other misuse. Your personal information will be held and disposed of securely.
